Optiview: Smart HVAC Analytics for Belimo Cloud Data
Developed during the STARTHack 25 Hackathon, Optiview tackles Belimo’s challenge of monetizing and leveraging the rich data collected from their smart HVAC field devices. We built a platform to transform raw operational data into valuable business intelligence and customer-facing services.
The Challenge: Untapped Data Potential
Belimo devices generate significant data (flow rates, temperatures, power consumption) streamed to the Belimo Cloud. However, this data often remains underutilized, lacking accessible tools for customers (like facility managers and engineers) to easily analyze performance, optimize energy usage, or predict maintenance needs. Belimo sought innovative, data-driven business models to add value beyond the physical devices.
Our Solution: Actionable Analytics with Optiview
Optiview provides a web-based platform designed to connect directly to the Belimo Cloud data streams (via Delta Sharing) and deliver clear, actionable insights.
- Robust Data Processing: Leveraging Apache Spark, Optiview efficiently processes large volumes of time-series data, cleaning, smoothing, and preparing it for analysis.
- Data-Powered Insights: Different algorithms are applied to identify anomalies, detect patterns indicative of potential failures (predictive maintenance), and benchmark system efficiency.
- Intuitive Visualization: A user-friendly dashboard presents key performance indicators, energy consumption trends, potential savings, and smart alerts in an easily digestible format.

Presented at STARTHack 25, Optiview directly addressed the Belimo challenge by demonstrating a technically feasible and potentially viable digital service. It showcases how Belimo’s existing data assets can be transformed into powerful tools for energy optimization, cost reduction, and enhanced customer value, paving the way for new data-driven revenue streams.
